Stephen “Jack” Bradley, of Ambler, formerly of Wyndmoor, was born March 7, 1928, at home, in Flourtown, Pennsylvania. He died July 17, 2024, in hope of resurrection.
He was the son of Catherine Griffin and Francis Bradley, immigrants from Ireland. Jack was baptized in Our Mother of Consolation parish in Chestnut Hill.
He attended Seven Dolors parish school in Wyndmoor and graduated from Springfield High School in 1946. Having served in the United States Army from June 1946 until November 1947, Jack was proud to have been awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, as per President Harry Truman’s decree that all who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces between December 7, 1941, and December 31, 1946, were Second World War veterans.
Jack married the love of his life, Anne Lahey, in 1951. God blessed them with 14 children, who also attended Seven Dolors school.
A wonderful husband and loving father, Jack worked for 40 years in the steel industry while also working part-time for local funeral homes.
His belief in Jesus, devotion to Our Lady and love of the Catholic faith surely inspired Jack’s selflessness.
We, his children, love him for so many reasons, not the least of which are our happy memories of boisterous Sunday dinners, during which Dad usually suggested a topic-of-the-week and asked for opinions from each of us, even the littlest. Hilarity always ensued.
More than that, his great love for our mother is an enduring example of how beautifully he and Mom lived the Sacrament of Matrimony.
It is a marvelous gift to have had as our father such a loving, smart, funny and completely charming man.
Jack was predeceased by his wonderful wife, Anne, their son Edward “Gene” and four grandchildren, Matthew, Sasha, Amanda and Andrew.
He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Francis (Mary), James Griffin (Margaret), Eugene, Sarah Little (Horace), Charles, and Elizabeth McKenna (Joseph).
He is survived by his children, Christine Davis (Neil), Stephen (Victoria), Michael (Lisa), Robert (Theresa), Catherine, Kevin, David, Daniel (Lisa), Gregory, Kim Bell (Paul), Kenneth, Mary Kate Moody (Christopher) and Brian.
In addition, he is survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for the deceased will take place Monday, July 29th at Jacob F. Ruth Funeral Home, 8413 Germantown Ave., Chestnut Hill, 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 30th at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., Chestnut Hill.
Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Wyncote, Pennsylvania.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen
