Sandra B. Boyd (nee Barr) of Wyndmoor, PA passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, at the age of 86 of Alzheimer’s Disease. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, George Boyd V, nephews, David, John and Peter Hastings, Brewster and Stephen Rhoads, Scott Sholiton and niece Ann Rhoads Littleton. She is predeceased by her parents, Marjorie and Richard Chapin Barr and her sister, Gale Sholiton. Born in Haverford, PA, she spent most of her childhood at Barrbrook Farm, West Chester, with 19 cats, graduating in 1955 from West Chester High School, moving then to center city Philadelphia where she attended The American Foundation of Dramatic Art, The Clarke Conservatory of Music and the Philadelphia Musical Academy (now the University of the Arts), earning a degree in the vocal arts, before spending time in New York City.
Her adult life was devoted to music and volunteer work. The greatest love was the Philadelphia Orchestra, where she devoted over 50 years of service as a volunteer and Manager of its gift shop for many years, holding various positions on committees including and The Chestnut Hill Committee for the Philadelphia Orchestra and Musical Cocktails. For twenty years she served as a Pink Lady at the Chestnut Hill Hospital, being active also with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Medical College of PA (now the Drexel U. College of Medicine). Over a ten-year period, she was Program Chair of the English-Speaking Union of Philadelphia and served as a hostess at International House.
She was a member of the Mayflower Society, The Daughters of the American Revolution, The National Society of Colonial Dames of America and hosted forty-three successive events for the New York State Society of the Cincinnati.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Episcopal Academy, 1785 Bishop White Dr., Newtown Square, PA 19073 on Friday, May 10th at 11:00AM.
