Rebecca Shallcross Scull Goudy

July 21, 1936 — December 6, 2023

Rebecca “Becky” Shallcross Scull Goudy was raised in Ocean City, NJ. She was tough and liked to join activities that girls were discouraged from doing like joining the boys to play football and baseball. She often told of ice skating on the frozen bay, falling in and somehow surviving. She enjoyed telling tales of jumping off roofs (aka Mary Poppins) with an umbrella in her hand. Born during the depression, money in her household was sparse. Her father went fishing every morning to catch dinner. Her mother loved that Becky got a job at Scotch Hall because even though it paid almost nothing, she got a free meal after work. As a teenager, Becky worked at Senior (photographic) Studios with her Uncle Al Senior and cousin Doris Senior. Senior Studios was well known for documenting everything about Ocean City, from the wreck of the Sindia to the development of the boardwalk, they were the official photographers for Princess Grace. Later Becky got a job at Lenox China, hoping to get to paint decorations, but they sent her straight to accounting to program their new IBM computers. Computers back then were programmed with patch cords similar to a telephone switchboard and had no monitor. Data was stored on IBM punch cards.

Becky met her husband Russell when he was vacationing at his shore house. Over their 59 year marriage, they lived in Flourtown and Plymouth Meeting where they raised three sons and later semi-retired to spend time between Gwynedd and the Eastern Shore of Maryland where they had many friends and fun times. Becky and Russ ran Kilian Hardware in Chestnut Hill and were widely known in the community. Becky developed a love of all things sheep related. She bred the sheep, (“Watch out for the rams!”) bottle fed the lambs, had the sheep shorn, (including quite a few black sheep!) spun the wool into yarn, knitted and wove the yarn on a loom. She made felted hats and sold the extra yarn at the store.

She was proud of all of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending concerts and performances and holidays with them.

Becky is survived by her two sons Russell Conwell Goudy Jr. (Hope McNelis) and Keith Lyne Goudy (Shelby Hoult) and five grandchildren Finola, Noelle, Rowan, Oakley and Van and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by husband Russell Goudy Sr. and son Robert Goudy. A private funeral and burial were held previously.
