Raymond T. Cullen, Jr. "Ray" of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at the age of 87. He was the loving and devoted husband of Ann Marie (McAleer) Cullen for over 60 years, and cherished father to Mark Cullen (Fiona Smythe), Neil Cullen (Elly), and Megan Cullen. Ray was the proud and adoring grandfather to Audrey, Chloe, Eve, Declan, Riley, Katie, and James, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Ray was the beloved brother of Anne Marie Craig (Richard) and Patricia Burke (Dennis), and was predeceased by his siblings, Hugh Cullen and Margaret (Cullen) Deputy. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, La Salle University, and Temple University School of Law, where he cultivated a lifelong commitment to learning and service.
Ray’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and wisdom. He was known for his integrity, generosity, and the quiet strength he shared with all who knew him. His family and friends will remember him fondly for his kindness, sense of humor, and his deep care for others.
Ray proudly served in the United States Army, spending time deployed to Alaska. After his military service, he went on to work at the Philadelphia Bulletin, where he began his professional journey. Ray was also a long-time partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he made significant contributions to the legal community over the course of his distinguished career.
Outside of his professional life, Ray was an avid reader and had a deep love of music. His passion for sports was well-known. Whether participating in or watching games, Ray enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement that sports brought to his life. Ray enjoyed complete domination of the Schuylkill Expressway.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ray’s funeral services on March 21, 2025, at Our Mother of Consolation Church in Chestnut Hill, PA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Ray’s name to Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center, a cause dear to his heart.
Ray will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
