Morgan Joseph Sincock

Morgan Joseph “Butch” Sincock, of Key West, FL and Dresher, PA, formerly of Chestnut Hill, passed away suddenly on August 31 at age 71.  He is survived by Judith Murphy, MD, his beloved wife of 31 years, his son, Robert (Bree) of New York City, his brother Thomas (Connie) Sincock of Macon, GA,  his brother-in-law Lester J “Jay” (Tina) Murphy of E Dennis, MA, and sisters-in-law  Janice (Norman) Gallagher of Holliston MA, and Joan (Michael) Dignan of S. Dennis, MA. Butch is also survived by nieces Liz (Kevin) Young, Lindsay (Brian) Delano, Brittany Murphy, and Kerry (Jay) Medoff, and nephews Christopher (Martha) Sincock, Stephen Congdon, and Luke Dignan, several great-nieces and nephews, and his former wife Margaret Felton.  He is pre-deceased by his parents Robert and Joanne Sincock, late of Yarmouthport, MA, his in-laws, Barbara and Lester J. (Joe) Murphy of Brewster, MA, and brothers Robert and Andrew Sincock.  Butch was born in Springfield, MA and lived in Natick, MA until college, but he dropped out of Boston University after one year, in 1966, to enlist in the Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Officers’ Training School at Fort Benning and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation.  He was sent to Vietnam as a member of the 25th Infantry Division, based in Hawaii, serving in Tay Ninh and Cu Chi, among other areas, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry’s Badge and 2 Bronze Stars for Valor.  After his tour in Viet Nam her returned to the states and was assigned to Fort Belvoir, VA.  He left the Army as a Captain.  He returned to school, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg VA and a Master’s of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond VA.  Butch worked as a social worker in the Spinal Cord Injury section of the Richmond (VA) VAMC and then as Administrative Officer of the Medical Service at the same facility, where he met his future wife, Judith.  Butch moved to Philadelphia to marry Judith, who had taken a position at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.  He joined the staff at the VA Regional Office in Germantown, from which he retired in 1997.  He then joined the Travel Industry leading tours of veterans and their families first to Viet Nam, and later he took veterans from WWII and the Korean War, with their families, to battle sites in Asia and Europe.  Butch also was active in the 25th Infantry Division Association, a group of veterans who served in the 25th Infantry Division, serving as their President from 1996-1998, and then as Executive Director from 1998 until he retired in 2016.  Butch volunteered on the Board of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Veteran’s Memorial, helping to oversee the recent redesign of the Memorial.  Butch lived in Chestnut Hill until he and Judith moved to a retirement community in Dresher, PA in 2018.  In 2000 Butch and Judith bought their “piece of heaven” in Key West, FL, visiting there as often as work allowed, and finally realizing their dream of the “endless summer”—summering in Dresher and wintering in Key West, this last year. Friends are invited to pay respects to the family at Jacob F. Ruth Funeral Home, 8413 Germantown Avenue, Chestnut Hill, on Wednesday, September 4, from 6 to 9 PM, and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Avenue, Chestnut Hill, on Thursday, September 5, at 9:30 AM. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 25th Infantry Division Association Memorial or Scholarship Fund, PO Box 7, Flourtown, PA 19031.
