Margaret C. (nee Lawless) McNally died peacefully on October 20, 2018. She was a resident of Philadelphia and Ship Bottom, NJ. Peggy was the beloved wife of Hugh (dec) and the mother of Meg, Hugh (Christine), Anne (Joe Pie’), John (Justine) and Colin (Sylvia). She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as by her sister, Denise Quigg, and her brother, Joseph Lawless. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Margaret, and her brothers Fr. George Lawless O.S.A., John, Bernard, Edward, and sister, Sister George Margaret S.S.J. Peggy was a graduate of Little Flower High School and of the HUP Nursing Program. After her youngest child started first grade she became a nurse for the School District of Philadelphia, spending summers on LBI and eventually becoming a nurse supervisor for the South West District of the city. She retired with Hugh to Ship Bottom in 1986. Never one to really slow down, Peggy embraced life “down the shore” with vigor and joy. She became a member of the Amergael (Irish American) Society, the parish book group, a Eucharistic Minister, a Third Order Franciscan, Parish Nurse and movie club devotee’. She was a tireless advocate for the elderly and was devoted to helping others age in place. As her husband welcomed customers at the tavern, Peggy had her own spirit of hospitality and warmth, always ready with a cup of tea and listening heart for all those who wandered by on LBI or Evergreen Avenue. Please join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Mother of Consolation on Saturday, October 27, 10:30AM. Relatives and friends may call at the church starting at 9:30AM. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Francis Church on Long Beach Island in NJ at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the St. Francis Food Pantry at stfrancisparishlbi.org.
