Bernard L. Goinden

d. January 29, 2018

Louis Bernard Goinden, aged 58, died on Monday, January 29, 2018, surrounded by loving family in Roxborough, Philadelphia, PA. Born August 24, 1959, in Beau-Bassin on the island of Mauritius, he was predeceased by his parents, Louis Rene Goinden and Marie Rita Micheline Goinden (née Aullyareea). Bernard grew up in Beau-Bassin and attended Beau-Bassin Government School through kindergarten and elementary. He was further educated at College La Confiance for junior high and high school. After high school, he worked for Randabel Brothers as a concrete pump mechanic. At the age of 20, Bernard chose to immigrate with his mother, Micheline, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He worked various odd jobs in Philadelphia until he obtained a technical certificate from the Randolph Vocational School. In 1983, he obtained a position in building maintenance with a prominent Philadelphia real estate owner and investor. He became a very skilled tradesman and rose through the ranks to become a building superintendent and supervisor with Classic Management and various other apartment complexes. Bernard enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He was an avid golfer and played whenever and wherever he could. He liked sports, especially football, and greatly enjoyed movies and music. He was a loving and devoted son to his mother who lived with him and who he took care of until her death in 2010. He was a caring nephew to his uncles and aunts, always taking on home maintenance projects to help them live comfortably. He was always willing to help his siblings with various construction projects, and was a dearly loved brother to them. Above all, Bernard was an amazing man. He had a way of making everyone laugh and enjoy themselves at family gatherings and other get-togethers and events. He brought joy to everyone through his company and always put a smile on people’s faces. To call him friendly would be a gross understatement. Bernard was loved by all that knew him, and will be deeply missed and held in the hearts of his family and friends. Bernard is survived by his siblings Jose Govinden (Marie-France), Joseph Goinden (Jenny), Mario Goinden (Claudie), Danielle Poujal (Pierre), Ludmilla Goinden-Williams (Paul) and Alain Goinden (Carol); uncles and aunt George Auchet (Lillian), Francine Auchet, and Serge Auchet (Adeline); nieces and nephews Sandra Bonner (Kevin), Jill Ezeh (Sunday), Gillian Wade (Ivan), Julien Poujal, Louis Govinden, Deborah Pomone (Jean-François), David Poujal, Chloe Goinden and Alexander Goinden; great nieces Natalie Bonner and Olivia Ezeh; and many more close family and friends.
