John (Jack) Joseph Rooney, III, Ph.D. John (Dr. Rooney) Joseph Rooney, III, Ph.D. of Ft. Washington, born on March 19, 1923, and passed peacefully on October 24, 2022, at 99 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Marion (nee McGlinn). Father of John J., the late Marian Rooney (Keith), and the late Mary Theresa Lynch (Vincent). Grandfather of Caitlin Rooney, Jonathan Lynch (Victoria), Benjamin Lynch, and Daniel Lynch. Great Grandfather of Nolan Lynch and Connor Lynch. Step Grandfather of Cameron Fiske (Nikki) and Trevor Fiske (Melissa). Great Step Grandfather of Madison Fiske. Brother of the late Gerald Rooney. Dr. Rooney was an incredible man who had an enormous impact on the lives he touched. He was a WWII Navy Pilot and Pilot Instructor. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and his Ph.D. in Psychology. Dr. Rooney was Professor Emeritus at La Salle University and was on faculty for 65 years and maintained an affiliation for nearly 70 years. He served as the Director of the Counseling Psychology Master’s Program for 25 of those years. Dr. Rooney was instrumental in the successful growth of the La Salle Psychology Department and of the Master’s programs. He was a mentor to many students, faculty and served on many committees at the university. His contributions to La Salle University will be felt by many for many years to come. Dr. Rooney authored two books and in addition co-authored two other books. He was a researcher, educator, clinician, writer, and mentor. He was a dedicated baseball fan, which was the subject of one of his books; excellent at squash; and love to play board and card games, especially with his friends at Ft. Washington Estates. Dr. Rooney was an incredible storyteller, a scholar, an excellent teacher, an effective administrator, a talented writer, a loyal friend, a substantial contributor, and a person of the highest integrity. He had a sense of humor that brought a lightness and fun to any situation. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
