James Michael Purcell

James (Jim) Michael Purcell died after a brief battle with cancer on July 12, 2024, at the age of 87. He passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones. 

 Jim was born in Philadelphia on February 23, 1937, to George and Mary Purcell. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Philadelphia. He received his undergraduate and master’s degree from Villanova in chemistry. Jim worked for the Department of Agriculture as a chemist for 30+ years before becoming a Professor of Chemistry at Manor College. When he retired, he devoted his life to his community, church and family.

 Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years Sheila Riley Purcell, son James Michael Purcell II, son Sean Philip Purcell, daughter-in-law Lynne Purcell and three granddaughters Anna and Emily Purcell and Agathe Obatan - Purcell. He is also survived by his son-in-law Alex Obaton-Purcell. Jim was predeceased by his youngest son Liam Thomas Moore Purcell.

 Funeral Services will be held at Our Mother of Consolation on July 23, 2024. The viewing will be at the church from 10-11am. The service will begin at 11:00am and there will be a reception at Sunnybrook Golf Club to follow.
