Irene Zoll, age 83, passed away on July 14, 2021, following a brave battle with pneumonia, with her daughter Kathleen by her side. Surviving a quadruple bypass in June of 2020, during COVID lockdown, she recovered strongly to travel with her daughter again, and to see her grandchildren one last time. She was born November 8, 1937 in Manchester, England to William and Edith Spriggs; moved to Australia and New Zealand in the 1950s, then to Philadelphia in the 60s, where she met and married her soulmate, Richard Louis Zoll, in November of 1968. Richard preceded her in death in 2004. Irene would often say she was a “Jack of all trades, master of none,” taking odd jobs and learning new skills and crafts to make her way through life. Having survived polio as a child and many changes in domestic care, she taught herself calligraphy, an art which help sustain her in spirit and pocket for most of her adult life. She also worked as a bookkeeper, nurse, police cadet, and seamstress, and most recently enjoyed working with her daughter Kathleen at Weight Watchers of Philadelphia and at Zoll Framing and Gifts. Irene loved meeting new people and hearing their stories. Her genuine compassion and kindness made people instantly take to her in as their “Mom.” She was open to receive, defend and love people of all races, orientations and religions, a trait she passionately instilled in her children. Irene is survived by her brother Alan, sister Kathy; her half-sister Jennifer, and half-brothers Geoff and Colin; her daughter Kathleen, son Alan and his wife Leslie; and grandchildren, Ashley and Abigail. Please join us celebrating her life Monday morning July 26, 2021, between 9:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m., with Catholic Mass to follow, at Holy Martyrs Church, 120 Allison Road, Oreland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's memory, https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/
