Hugh J. McNamara passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16th, after a courageous battle with dementia. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Hugh’s life was marked by his deep love for his family, his remarkable talent in art and furniture restoration, and his commitment to his community.
Hugh attended Cardinal Dougherty High School, where he was a proud member of the basketball team. He went on to earn an associate’s degree from Spring Garden College, continuing his passion for basketball during his college years. His career spanned 25 years at MSS as an art and furniture restorationist, where his exceptional craftsmanship became widely recognized. Later, he founded his own business, where his skill and dedication continued to earn him a sterling reputation, often spread through word-of-mouth by those who admired his work.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Hugh was an active volunteer at Our Mother of Consolation Church, where he dedicated his time and efforts to serving his community.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 42 years, Barbara; his three children, Sarah Murray (Jeff), Marley, and Matt; and his two cherished grandchildren, Vivienne and Everett. Hugh also leaves behind six of his eight siblings. The McNamara family has called Chestnut Hill their home for 71 years, a place filled with love and cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Hugh's memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. A memorial service will be held at Our Mother of Consolation Church on September 13, 2024. A visitation will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
