Helen L. (DeRemer) Cardamone, 93, formerly of Dunbar Township, passed away peacefully on Aug. 31, 2022, at her home in Philadelphia. Ms. Cardamone enjoyed a 30-year career with the federal government, primarily as a medical records director and administrator, quickly advancing from her initial position as a statistical clerk at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., where she worked for several prominent medical researchers. She loved to travel the world, and worked at overseas U.S. military hospitals in Okinawa, Japan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as well as stateside assignments in Washington, D.C., Sacramento, New Orleans, and Indian Health Service facilities in Arizona and South Dakota. She retired in 1992, then moved to the Philadelphia area to be close to her family. She was born on June 5, 1929, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Charles A. DeRemer and Olive J. (Kight) DeRemer. She also was predeceased by her brothers, Francis Brookman and Daniel Brookman. She was a 1947 graduate of Connellsville High School and received her accreditation from the American Medical Record Association in 1980. Ms. Cardamone is survived by a daughter, Donna Shaw Bielski; son-in-law, Walter Bielski; two grandchildren, Matthew Bielski and Theresa Bielski; all of Philadelphia, and a nephew, Michael Brookman, of Akron, Ohio. A private family service will be held in Philadelphia on Sept. 8, 2022. Interment will be at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown.
