GERARD RUSH passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024, at the age of 91 in Wyndmoor, PA surrounded by family. He was born on February 9, 1933, in Magheraboy, Kilmovee, County Mayo Ireland to Annie (née Duffy) and Patrick Rush. His most cherished memories were growing up with his many siblings on the family farm in Ireland, working the fields, tending the animals, and trout fishing on Sundays. As a teenager, he would join his brothers going for work and adventure to Nottingham and Lincolnshire, England. In 1954, after returning to Ireland for a time, he boarded the MV Georgic bound for New York. He settled with his brother Martin in Philadelphia working various jobs until joining the U.S. Army in 1955. Following basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, he was deployed to Korea from 1955 to 1957 and upon returning served in the Army Reserves until 1962. After returning from Active Duty, he worked at The Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia and Jimmy Duffy Catering in Strafford, PA before settling in the plumbing trade and working for Raymond J. Tatlow Co. for thirty-four years until retiring in 1997. He had a love of European History, particularly Irish History and read extensively on the subject. He also loved working in the yard and helping his children with home improvement projects and repairs. Most of all he loved spending time with his loving wife of 59 years, Philomena (née McCullagh), and with whom he thoroughly enjoyed both the everyday routine as well as Sunday trips to the shore, return trips to Ireland and England, and spending time with their five grandchildren. In addition to his wife and grandchildren, he is survived by his daughters Karen Wagner (Greg), Joanne Burbelo (Greg), and sons David and Stephen (Mary). He is also survived by his brother Patrick (Kathleen), and sisters Kathleen Kelly (Patrick), and Eileen Howley (Martin). He is predeceased by brothers Martin (Bridget), Thomas (Patricia), Laurence (Patricia), and John (Mary), sisters Mary and Annie, and daughter-in-law Mary Simonis Rush.
