Gerard Joseph Maloney

GERARD JOSEPH MALONEY passed away on Tuesday, November 2nd, All Soul’s Day, following a 10+ year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Gerard is survived by his loving wife, Marie Nuara Maloney. He is also survived by his daughter, Meghan Maloney Barber (Russell) and his son, Paul Charles Maloney (Samantha). Also survived by his siblings, Col. James Maloney (Rita), William Maloney (Evelyn), Bernadette Longo (John), Patrick Maloney (Lynn), Lucy Lane (William), Paul Maloney (Mariella) and Kevin Maloney. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Paul Maloney, sisters and sister’s in-law, Mary Ann Bauer (Thomas), Kathleen Maloney (William) and Lisa Maloney (Kevin) and niece and nephew, Jean Smith and James Smith. Gerard grew up in Baldwin, NY with his 8 brothers and sisters. He was a graduate of Maria Regina High School and St. John’s University in Queens, NY. Gerard began his lifelong career with Barnes & Noble College Division as a teenager and retired after 40+ years with the company where he worked alongside his brothers and found the love of his life, Marie Nuara. Everyone who knew Gerard knew that he loved his family, the many colleges and students he worked with, and sweets - especially cookies. He was a fighter for his family, even throughout his illness, and until the end his positivity, humor and love would light up a room. He had a quiet and dry sense of humor and we can hear him reciting Monty Python even in the darkest of moments. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 9th at Our Mother of Consolation Parish in Philadelphia, PA (9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave). A full rosary will begin at 10:30am and the Funeral Mass follows at 11am.
