Frank J. Eisenhart, Jr.

December 5, 1945 — December 7, 2024

Frank was born in Philadelphia, the son of Frank J. Eisenhart Sr. and Marie McClung Eisenhart. Early life in Montgomery County included Little League baseball, pick-up games of basketball and football in the back yard and scouting – from Cub Scout through to Eagle Scout.

Frank was a graduate of LaSalle College High School (1963), Boston College and Temple University School of Law. While in law school Frank interned at Dechert LLP and was asked to join the firm after he passed the bar.Frank was named a partner in the firm in 1980.

During high school Frank went on a blind date that would change the rest of his life. After meeting Kathleen Bammer there was no going back for either of them. Despite the challenges of going to college in different cities it was clear they were meant to be life partners. They were married in 1967 and celebrated their 50thanniversary in 2017.

Frank, Kathy, their son Jamie and a host of Labrador Retrievers lived in Philadelphia in their early years where they were orchestra supporters, avid tennis players and members of the Germantown Cricket Club. Vacations were often spent skiing. Tennis and skiing later gave way to golf and sailing. When a promotion transferred Kathy to the DC area in the 1980s, Frank moved to his firms’ Washington offices where he became Managing Partner. Frank retired from Dechert in 2006.

Frank and family fell in love with the Annapolis MD area, especially the allure of the waterways. While still in Philadelphia, they had spent summer vacations sailing the coasts of Maine and Canada. But the move to Annapolis encouraged their first boat purchase – a 35’ sloop named Sister Kate – to explore the Chesapeake and beyond. They also became members of the Annapolis Yacht Club. When he retired Frank traded in the sailing vessel for a 44’ power trawler that he named The Icy Devil, since he had previously declared it “would be a cold day in hell” before he bought another big boat. They cruised the waters of New England, the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway.

To get more time on the water than northeast climates allow, Kathy & Frank moved to Hilton Head SC in 2012. But In 2019 Frank endured the heartbreak of losing his wife Kathy after 52 years together. The house and boat on Hilton Head they had enjoyed together did not hold the same allure. Frank, and his Irish Water Spaniel Molly, moved back to Annapolis, and then to Meadowood, a continuing care community in Skippack, PA – closer to his siblings and medical care at the University of Pennsylvania. His beloved dog Molly broke his heart again when she died a year later.

Frank did not often express his feelings outright but one of the exceptions for that was to say how proud he was when he and Kathy attended their son’s doctoral dissertation presentation. He was also a very proud grandfather. Frank is survived by his son Jamie, Jamie’s wife Lynn (Chang) and their sons Theodore Felix and Calvin Kai. Frank is also survived by his sisters Joan Tlush and Linda Eisenhart and brother Ross and their families. Frank will be interred next to his wife Kathy at St. Anne’s Cathedral in Annapolis, MD.
