Elizabeth Marvin Cecil (Betty), 84, died peacefully on December 4th, 2020 at The Hill at Whitemarsh in Lafayette Hill, PA. The cause of death was multiple myeloma. She is survived by her two daughters Jennifer Bryson-Alderman (Jason), Beth Bryson Beers (David); her two brothers James W. Marvin, Jr. (Mary) and Dr. Robert F. Marvin (Margarete); her four grandchildren Daniel, Libby, Nora and Graham; as well as one niece, Sara Marvin and three nephews, Bill Marvin, Christopher Marvin, and Andrew Marvin. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Henry S. Cecil, and her parents, James Whitney Marvin and Helen Verna Fleming Marvin. Betty was born in Philadelphia on April 6, 1936. She was a proud alumna of Germantown Friends School, Mount Holyoke College (BA), University of Pennsylvania (M.S.Ed) and Temple University (J.D.) She was a lifelong booster of Philadelphia, a resolute advocate for justice, an avid reader, and a lover of music and the outdoors. She was possessed of a curious mind, gentle humor, and a strong, determined will. She was a loving and devoted sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed. A memorial service is planned for a future date when her family can gather safely and celebrate her life. Donations in her memory may be made to Episcopal Community Services.
