Carole Delmore Sivin Carole Sivin died on 30 December 2020 at the age of 84. She was born and grew up in Saratoga Springs, New York. She was trained in art at the State University of New York, Buffalo, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She later studied watercolor painting with Gao Yihong in Taipei, Taiwan, and the abbot of Shinjuan, in Kyoto, Japan. She also learned ceramics from Yabe Makoto in Kyoto. She has taught design at Philadelphia University, and was artist in residence at the Hotchkiss School (Lakeville, CT), the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the MacDowell Colony, and the Aegean Center for Fine Arts (Paros, Greece). Her work was exhibited widely, for instance in Budapest, Pecs (Hungary), Clwyd (Wales), Tokyo and Kyoto (Japan), and Puerto Rico. She had solo exhibitions in Philadelphia at Nexus Gallery, DaVinci Art Alliance, the University of Pennsylvania, St. Joseph’s University, LaSalle University, and Haveford College. Her book, Maskmaking: Saving Face, has remained in print for Þ30 years. Carole and her husband Nathan have lived in Chestnut Hill for 43 years, and before that in Singapore and Cambridge (MA). She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia, the Clay Studio, Allen’s Lane Art Center, and the Woodmere Art Museum.
