Barbara A. Shriver

BARBARA SHRIVER (nee Ortino) passed away on October 27, 2021 surrounded by her family, following a 12 year battle with Lymphoma. Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Charles, and her beloved Beagle, Jewel. She is also survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Daniel) and her beautiful granddaughter, Ella. Barbara grew up in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy. She was a 1962 graduate of Germantown High School. Barbara began her life long career in insurance with the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. Barbara and Charlie moved to Oreland after they married and she went on to be the office manager for John Abram Insurance for over 25 years. Everyone who knew Barbara knew that she loved her dogs and going to the beach in Ocean City, NJ. Her annual girls’ trip to the beach with her daughter and granddaughter was one of the highlights of the year for Barbara. Barbara was active in local politics for many years and was a Girl Scout leader. Barbara was always quick to welcome people into her house and feed them. Never one to be showy, she had a way of quietly helping out people when they needed a hand. She was known as the mom all the kids would go to for advice. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Lucy (nee Braun) Ortino. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Martyrs Church, 120 Allison Rd., Oreland, PA on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 at 10:30AM. The family will receive visitors at the Church beginning at 10AM. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
