Andrew Barksdale

d. August 28, 2021

Andrew Barksdale was born on November 6, 1943 to the late Mabel Lee Barksdale in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was taken home to be with Lord on August 28, 2021. In his youth, Andrew participated in the Philadelphia Boys and Girls Club. He was educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. He spent time working with machinery and in restaurants before entering nursing school at Gwynedd Mercy where he graduated with an associates in nursing. From there, he started a lifelong career as a nurse and developed a passion for helping and caring for psychiatric patients. He was a kind and caring professional who stayed dedicated to his life’s work until he retired in February, 2020. Andrew was well-liked at work: in his younger years he enjoyed socializing with his colleagues after work, and in his later years he always took the time at the end of his shift to talk to and check in with his coworkers before he left. Andrew met his first wife, Geneva, while in high school and they married in 1964. They welcomed their son, Anthony, into the world in 1966. In 1977 Andrew met his second wife, Sharon Winters, through work. A romance blossomed and they were married on October 14, 1984. Together they welcomed their daughter, Jessica, into the world in 1985. Andrew had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed good food and good company; he always looked forward to trying new restaurants and cooking meals for himself and others. He could frequently be found in front of the TV watching the Phillies during baseball season and the Eagles during football season. He had an interest in technology, and he took great pride in the computers he built. He was also an avid movie watcher and always looked forward to the latest action or science fiction releases. Though he did not travel a great deal throughout his life, he thoroughly enjoyed himself when he did. His favorite trips included time spent in San Francisco, New Orleans, Key West, and he always looked forward to routine family trips to the Jersey shore. Lastly, and most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with family. He cherished those moments greatly. Andrew will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by: his wife, Sharon Winters; his daughter, Jessica Carr (Jake); his son, Anthony Barksdale (Kenya); his grandchildren, Lauryn Barksdale Kennedy (Wendell), Anthony A. Barksdale Jr. (1/1/89 - 2/5/89), Breanna Barksdale, Ahharan Barksdale, Sieanna Barksdale, Yashawan Barksdale, Malachi Barksdale; his great grandchildren, Kaylen Kennedy, Kaidir Barksdale, Jayceon Barksdale; his aunt, Ecclester Musgrove; and a host of friends, relatives, nephews, and cousins.
