Alba I. Hyk

HYK – Alba I., age 103 of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Prospect, Maine, died at home on December 22, 2023.  She was born March 23, 1920, the sixth daughter of Michelangelo Iacampo and Ursula (nee Peters) Iacampo.

Alba loved spending time with family and friends in both Chestnut Hill, where she was a long-time resident, and at her home in Maine.  She was a great lover of music and nature.  She enjoyed cooking, and in her later years was happiest in her kitchen.  In her younger years, Alba helped many relatives and friends by driving them to medical appointments and caring for them when they were ill.  Once her children were grown, she demonstrated her love of children by teaching children with special needs in the Public School System of Philadelphia.  Alba was an avid reader and a supporter of the arts.  She served as a volunteer with the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill for many years.

Alba was predeceased by her beloved parents, five sisters and her husband of 49 years, John M. Hyk, Sr.  She is survived by her children, Michele G. Hyk-Farlow, John M. Hyk, II, (Rebecca) and Christopher J. Hyk (Diana), as well as granddaughter, Hanna S. Tenney, grand-step daughters, Anna and Gina Quattrucci and great-grandson, Foster M. Ashmore.  She is also survived by loving nieces, Faith Bustard, Mary Griffin and nephew, Samuel Griffin (Kathleen) as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews.  Given her positive and ever appreciative nature, Alba was blessed with many friends.  Steve Berg and Scott Nicholas as well as Jean-Luc Katchoura and his family were particularly devoted.  The family would also like to thank Pearl Thompson for her wonderful care of Alba this past year.  Alba will be missed by all who knew her.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118 on January 27^th at 11 am.  Friends may call at the church from 10 am to 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Alba’s memory be sent to Doctors Without Borders.
